A Male Head
Gandhara, 4th-5th centuries C.E.
stucco, painted, H: 26 cm
MIK collection I. 4871
This skilfully modeled head of a Bodhisattva is wxtremely well preserved. The surface of the face is unusually smooth, and the red and blue pigments still remain. The outlines of the eyes, urna, nose and lips and the turban are accentuated by red lines, while blue is reserved only for the line between the hair and the turban.
Regrettably it is not know to which Monastery in the Gandharan region this beautiful figure originally belonged
